Mayah & The Band, a newly established group of local musicians formed to showcase 19-year-old local singer-songwriter Mayah’s music on the Sunshine Coast. Drummer Colby Cummins, lead guitar/back-up vocals, Cory Josland, and bassist/keyboardist, Samuel Westbrook, bring an energetic, dynamic, and upbeat rock vibe to Mayah’s soulful sounds adding a refreshing and highly entertaining element to her popular solo performances. Colby and Mayah forged their musical partnership in high school and his intuitive drum style perfectly complements Mayah’s unique sound. Samuel, with his eclectic, diverse, and wonderfully skilled instrumental flair, has been with the band for the past six months and Cory, newly recruited outstanding local performer, brings a rich wealth of musical talent to beautifully complete the ensemble.
Mayah has achieved success with her first two published releases clocking over half a million Spotify streams thus far. She plays a modern blend of sounds merging pop, R&B, soul, folk, and hip-hop and tells stories of broken hearts, betrayal, self-empowerment with a depth and poignancy that belies her young years. Mayah is a strong advocate for mental and emotional wellbeing and her third and most recent song ‘Making Space’ written during the initial stages of the Covid pandemic and released in 2021, speaks of peace, love and non-violence.
Mayah regularly performs her three-hour solo show at venues around the Sunshine Coast. Her songs appeal to the very young, those who have travelled a well-worn path, and seasoned music connoisseurs who overwhelmingly respond with passion and enthusiasm. She currently plays shows around South East Queensland both solo and with her fabulous new band.
